The Story of the Falling Donkey

Why is it Called “Kom el Shoqafa”?

The name “Kom el Shoqafa” is Arabic. It translates to the “Mound of Shards.” This name describes the huge piles of broken jars and plates found at the site.

However, these people believed that death made the plates “unclean.” Because of this, they did not take the plates back home. Instead, they broke the plates and left them behind.
